The Yeside Laguda Waves Moment

There’s a certain pulse in the air during fashion season—it’s culture season, and every show feels like stepping into a story waiting to unfold. Yesterday’s offsite show by Yeside Laguda reminded me exactly why. Away from the main runway, the space felt intimate; every detail amplified, every movement deliberate. When I first saw the invite, I must admit I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The theme was “Waves”.

Stepping into the venue, the care in every element was immediately evident. Koachella Events clearly understood the assignment—the stage sculpted like rolling waves, the background carrying illusions of movement across water, and lighting that shifted subtly to set the perfect mood.

The atmosphere alone felt like part of the narrative. Yeside’s collection played with various textiles—from Aso Oke to Adire, to beautifully pleated crinkle fabrics—and a spectrum of browns, draping, pleating, cut-outs, and tassels, merging the theme of waves with earthy hues in a way that felt both modern and deeply rooted in storytelling. You could tell she thought through every piece with care—the silhouettes, the layers, the textures—they weren’t just clothes; they were statements.

The Yeside Laguda has been exploring indigenous fabrics in her previous collections. Her brand has existed for almost two decades, so this isn’t a trend—this collection reflects her dedication to cultural preservation. I was particularly drawn to the dark hues of brown and the draping this season because it speaks to connecting with roots and heritage.

It reminded me of the history of Aso Oke and how the fibers for these textiles came from trees. Which piece from the collection spoke to you the most, and why?
